Mobil Oil and Gas souvenir porcelain tile featuring the famous winged Pegasus, with "Mobil Oil Portuguesa," and "Quo Non Ascendam" on the edges.

Portugal is known for their beautiful tiles, called azulejos. This piece was custom-made for Mobil Oil, and was probably expensive at the time. It is from the estate of a Mobil oil executive who worked in Portugal, or was given this as a gift. I have been unable to find a comparable on this piece anywhere.

The inscription on the sides is Latin, "QUO NON ASCENDAM?' it means "to what height can I not rise?, or "To what height shall I not ascend?" The phrase is attributed to Nicholas Fouquet, the 17th century finance minister of France and the motto on his coat of arms.

There is some edge chipping as shown, please seen the photos. There is something that was written on the back, but over time it has faded, and I was unable to decipher it.

A must have for any Mobil Oil and Gas Station collector.
