The Regency era of British history officially spanned the years 1811 to 1820, though the term is commonly applied to the longer period between c. 1795 and 1837. This is a superb example of a European Tea Caddy Box, of handsome mahogany with a brass handle (it says Copenhagen on one side, the other I believe a musical instrument name). The handle lifts to reveal an interior in remarkably good condition. The fitted pottery or porcelain caddy is not within, but there are places to fit the tea containers on either side, and in the lid another fitting for a caddy spoon.
As tea was a staple in England, the tea caddy was used extensively. Very few of these lovely boxes remain.
